Russians have named local food products, crafts, and landmarks as their main regional symbols of pride in an online discussion on Odnoklassniki. The findings were made public following a forum titled Popular Brand on the platform, with survey data obtained by news outlet Lenta.ru.

Responses gathered from Central Russia showed that residents most frequently selected traditional baked goods and sweets, including Tula gingerbread, as well as classic tea samovars. Tula, located south of Moscow, has been historically recognized for its metalworking traditions and printed gingerbread production.
In the Volga region, pride was focused on local confectionery factory items and regional drinks, along with the Saratov kalach bread loaf and the Orenburg down shawl. Orenburg shawls represent a centuries-old handicraft tradition from the Southern Urals region.
Residents in southern Russia highlighted agricultural harvests as their primary source of regional identity, pointing specifically to watermelons and tomatoes. Southerners also designated local fish and crayfish as key regional symbols.
Regional specialties from Siberia to the Far East
In Siberia, survey participants identified gifts of the forest, Baikal omul fish, Altai honey, and regional herbal tea blends as their local symbols. Lake Baikal in southern Siberia is famous for its unique aquatic ecosystem and endemic species.
Far Eastern residents pointed to seafood resources as their main point of pride, specifically listing fish, caviar, and crabs, alongside local sweet products.
Celebrity endorsements of historic Russian brands
Several well-known performers participated in the online forum to share their preferred domestic products. Singer and composer Soso Pavliashvili noted that Krasny Oktyabr candies represented the taste of his childhood. Krasny Oktyabr is one of Moscow's oldest confectionery producers, dating back to the 19th century.
Singer Zara cited Petersburg Nights candies as a culinary calling card for Saint Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, which is widely known as the Northern Capital. Meanwhile, singer Nadezhda Kadysheva highlighted Svoboda cosmetic creams as products that consumers stay loyal to for decades, adding that Russia possesses many historic brands that maintain high standards.
Growing international interest in Russian regions
The discussion comes amidst reports of growing tourism interest from abroad. Travelers from Association of Southeast Asian Nations member countries and other Asian states have shown increasing interest in visiting a Russian region to explore its local culture, architecture, traditions, historical sights, and regional cuisine.
