Alonso Grimaldo, the Peruvian engineer at the center of the scandal that ended the engagement between television host Curwen and Carla Campos Salazar, said on TikTok from Argentina that he intends to turn his sudden fame into an opportunity to offer free mentorships in technology and artificial intelligence.
The controversy erupted after images surfaced showing Grimaldo and Campos Salazar, Curwen's girlfriend, together at a nightclub. More than a week after the images became public, the fallout is still generating headlines, and Grimaldo said he has decided to use the exposure to promote projects he is developing in Argentina, where he has lived for four years.
New TikTok account and free classes
Grimaldo opened a new TikTok account to document his daily life and share his personal projects after becoming a media figure because of the scandal. He said the added exposure gave him a platform to instruct others through mentorships and consultancies, with the goal of helping grow Peru's technology and artificial intelligence market.
He said he would soon launch a link that people could use to register and describe what they wanted help with, adding that if enough people signed up, he would hold a small group class where participants could ask questions. He said that if he could use the media scandal to contribute something positive to society, to Peru and to anyone he could help, he would be glad to do so.
Grimaldo, now widely known by the nickname "Grimi," said the consultancies and mentorships would be free for anyone interested in learning more about technology, startups and artificial intelligence. He said many people had already written to him asking for mentorships and consultancies, and that as he had said, he offers them free of charge.
No talk of the scandal
Grimaldo also made clear that the free classes, consultancies and mentorships would not touch on Campos Salazar or Curwen. He said the time he gives to his followers would be focused exclusively on subjects related to his profession.
He said interested people should respond to his TikTok story, adding that he would not discuss the scandal at all and that those looking for that conversation should not sign up. He said he would never charge for teaching what he enjoys.
Background to the scandal
The term "ampay," widely used in Peruvian entertainment media, refers to hidden-camera footage or paparazzi-style images that expose a person, often catching them in an act of infidelity or other compromising situation. Curwen is the host of the Peruvian television program "Todo Good." The images of Grimaldo and Campos Salazar together at a nightclub led to the end of her engagement to Curwen and turned Grimaldo, previously unknown to the public, into a media figure followed closely by entertainment outlets.
