American actor Michael Wright, who starred in the hit television series V and Oz, died on Wednesday, August 19, at the age of 70.
The New York native passed away following heart failure linked to Marchiafava-Bignami disease, a rare neurodegenerative condition.
Writing on Instagram, his wife, Susan, expressed deep sadness and an unimaginable weight in her heart over the loss of her beloved husband. She paid tribute to him as a loved one, a close friend, and an extraordinary artist whose work touched generations of viewers.
Wright began his film career in 1979 with a role in Philip Kaufman's drama The Wanderers. In 1983, he earned major international acclaim when he won the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival for his performance in Robert Altman's drama Streamers.

In Streamers, Wright portrayed Carlyle, one of a group of young soldiers preparing for deployment to Vietnam whose lives are upended when one of them reveals his homosexuality. The Venice Film Festival, held annually in Venice, Italy, is the world's oldest international film festival. In 1991, Wright delivered another prominent film performance as a drug-addicted R and B singer in Robert Townsend's musical drama The Five Heartbeats.
