British actress Olivia Colman will join the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building as a guest star for its sixth season, which is currently filming in London.
The show's principal cast members, Selena Gomez, Meryl Streep and Martin Short, announced the casting on Tuesday in a video posted to social media.
In the clip, Gomez remarked that the production had featured many guest stars in what she called Only Murders in London. Streep then noted that they were still missing one, and Short expressed his excitement before Gomez introduced Colman.
The actress appeared in the video with her hair pulled back, wearing a printed trench coat.
Colman won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2019 for her performance in the period dark comedy The Favourite. She is also widely known for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the historical drama series The Crown, and for her roles in the television shows Broadchurch and Fleabag.
A British setting and cast
The mystery comedy series, which airs internationally on the Disney+ streaming platform, is currently in production for its sixth season. The upcoming episodes will mark the first time the show has moved its plot outside the United States, relocating the characters to London to investigate a murder.
Only Murders in the Building traditionally centres on a trio of true crime podcast enthusiasts who investigate murders in their affluent New York City apartment block.
To accompany the new international setting, the series is adding a roster of well known British guest stars alongside Colman. The cast will feature Peter Capaldi, David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker, all three of whom are known for starring as the title character in the long running science fiction series Doctor Who.
Pop singer Geri Halliwell, a founding member of the girl group the Spice Girls, will also make an appearance in the new season.
