Mackeily Luján denies knowing La Bella Luz singer abuse

Mackeily Luján denied claims that she knew about alleged improper touching suffered by her former La Bella Luz bandmate Naldy Saldaña.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Peruvian cumbia singer addressed accusations that she failed to support Saldaña. The media event was held by members of La Bella Luz alongside band founder Óscar Custodio to address Saldaña's formal complaint against musical director César Sánchez Chavesta, who is also Custodio's cousin.

Mackeily Luján dio su descargo sobre la denuncia de Naldy Saldaña en conferencia de prensa de La Bella Luz este jueves 6 de agosto.

Luján reaffirmed her support for Saldaña after previously expressing solidarity on social media. She said that as a woman she demands justice, wants the investigation to reach the bottom of the matter, and stands with Saldaña and all women facing abuse.

Knowledge of the allegations

Addressing reports that she had prior knowledge of the situation, Luján clarified that she only learned of an incident after Saldaña missed scheduled group performances. When she inquired about Saldaña's absence, she was informed that Sánchez Chavesta had shown a lack of respect toward her bandmate, but she was unaware of the full extent of the misconduct.

Luján stated that she never saw any video evidence and that Saldaña never confided the details of her experience directly to her. She added that had she known the gravity of the situation, she would have encouraged Saldaña to file a complaint immediately, emphasizing that no woman should remain silent about abuse.

Incident during viral video recording

Luján also commented on a viral video that showed Sánchez Chavesta delivering a stern message to the band in the presence of Custodio and Saldaña, who was seen weeping quietly with her head lowered. Luján recalled noticing her bandmate's distress during the recording and asking if she was feeling alright.

According to Luján, Saldaña indicated she was not okay, prompting Luján to ask if she wanted to step outside. Saldaña accepted, and Luján accompanied her out of the room to let her breathe before returning. Luján noted that Saldaña did not reveal any specifics about the underlying problem during that interaction either.
