Television host Magaly Medina revealed on her program that her production team possesses an audio recording that contradicts an official statement issued by cumbia group La Bella Luz following improper touching allegations against musical director César Sánchez Chavesta.
During a live broadcast, Medina asked 26-year-old singer Naldy Saldaña for authorization to air the audio recording. Saldaña, a former member of the group who filed the complaint against Sánchez Chavesta in June, appeared visibly nervous and avoided answering directly, showing discomfort at the possibility of broadcasting the material. While she neither authorized nor rejected airing the recording, Saldaña expressed sadness over the orchestra's official response.
La Bella Luz Statement Questioned
Medina criticized the statement released by La Bella Luz, which is led by Óscar Custodio, arguing that the group acted far too late. The television host noted that Saldaña filed her complaint in June, questioning why the orchestra waited until now to announce the suspension of Sánchez Chavesta and offer solidarity to the singer.
Medina said the audio in her team's possession completely undermines the group's communique. Saldaña added that the video images of the incident are clear enough that the orchestra should not claim it needs to analyze or investigate the situation.
Concerns Over Discrediting Claims
Saldaña also expressed concern regarding the defense strategy that might be used by the accused musical director. She said it would not surprise her if people try to discredit her testimony by spreading rumors that she was in a romantic relationship with Sánchez Chavesta, noting that several people have already mentioned this possibility to her.
The singer called it very low to cover up such obvious situations with those types of claims. Medina supported Saldaña, saying that smearing the complaint with such assertions ignores how these events happen in many workplaces and artistic organizations involving young women, adding that group leaders should remain on high alert.
