Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he discussed conditions for real diplomacy with US President Donald Trump during a closed-door meeting in Washington on July 28. Zelensky shared the details in an evening address posted to his Telegram channel.
He said that at the Washington meeting, they talked about how to create new conditions for real diplomacy, adding that they are trying to make this happen.
Envoys and ongoing contact
Zelensky said he hoped Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would be active in the near future, though he did not give further details. He said Ukraine remains in constant contact with the US president's team.
Trump and Zelensky met at the White House on July 28 in a session closed to the press. Zelensky said he discussed with Trump the production of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. Following the meeting, it emerged that Kushner and Witkoff could also visit Kyiv soon, which Zelensky later confirmed.
