Ukraine's National Police say almost 400 automatic traffic cameras are now operating across the country, with fines from the system totaling nearly 2.5 million notices so far this year.
The Patrol Police Department told LIGA.net that as of July 22, 376 control devices were functioning in Ukraine. Of those, 37 were connected to the automated data processing system in 2026, while 42 were added the previous year.
From January 1 to July 21, 2026, Ukraine issued 2,498,897 fine notices for traffic violations recorded automatically, according to the department.
The cameras record violations including speeding by more than 20 km/h and more than 50 km/h over the limit, as well as driving or stopping in lanes reserved for public transport, police said.
Fine amounts set by administrative code
Fines are set under Ukraine's administrative code. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h carries a 340 hryvnia fine, equivalent to 20 tax-free minimum incomes of 17 hryvnias each. Speeding by more than 50 km/h carries a 1,700 hryvnia fine, or 100 tax-free minimum incomes. Driving or stopping in a public transport lane carries a 680 hryvnia fine, equal to 40 tax-free minimum incomes.
Road accident figures for first half of 2026
The Patrol Police Department also released monthly figures for accidents involving deaths or injuries in the first half of 2026: 1,483 in January, 1,231 in February, 1,505 in March, 1,801 in April, 2,317 in May and 2,411 in June, totaling 10,748 accidents.
For comparison, police recorded 25,934 accidents with victims across all of 2025, in which 3,249 people were killed and 31,898 injured.
Fatal Kyiv crash prompts calls for tougher penalties
In early June, a fatal crash in Kyiv killed four people. The suspect's vehicle had racked up dozens of recorded violations and one prior accident before the crash, and the Patrol Police said punishment for such drivers has been insufficient.
That same month, the then-Cabinet of Ministers proposed graduating fines according to how far drivers exceed speed limits, and strengthening penalties for repeat offenders.
