Samsung Electronics has set a new pre-order record in Europe for its latest foldable smartphone lineup, led by the newly released Galaxy Fold 8.
The South Korean technology company said combined pre-orders for the Galaxy Fold 8 and Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra surged by 70 per cent compared to the previous generation Galaxy Fold 7. The standard Galaxy Fold 8 accounted for more than 40 per cent of all pre-orders for the foldable series across Europe.
Samsung reported that total advance orders for the new lineup exceeded its previous European pre-order record by more than 17 per cent. The company confirmed that the launch represents its most successful pre-order campaign for foldable smartphones in the region to date.
Hardware upgrades and camera features
The updated smartphone range incorporates several design changes across its models. Samsung said the Galaxy Fold 8 launched with a redesigned form factor, while the top-tier Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra features a 200-megapixel primary camera sensor.
In mobile technology, megapixel ratings measure sensor resolution, with 200-megapixel sensors designed to capture ultra-high-definition photographs and detailed imagery. The Fold line uses a book-style hinge mechanism that opens horizontally to reveal a large internal flexible display similar to a compact tablet.
Alongside the larger Fold devices, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Flip 8. The company said the new clamshell device features the largest outer cover screen ever included on a Flip series model.
Clamshell foldables fold vertically into a compact square shape. The external cover display allows users to check notifications, view widgets, take photos, and interact with applications without needing to unfold the main internal screen.
European market and company background
Samsung Electronics, based in Suwon, South Korea, is one of the world's largest producers of consumer electronics and semiconductor memory chips. The company pioneered commercial flexible display technology when it introduced its original Galaxy Fold device, establishing the foldable category within the premium smartphone segment.
Advance pre-order figures serve as a critical metric for mobile phone manufacturers to gauge consumer demand before devices reach retail store shelves. Europe remains one of the most competitive markets for premium mobile hardware, where major technology vendors compete for market share in high-end devices.
