Two people suffered minor injuries during an overnight drone attack on Samara Oblast in southwestern Russia, regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishev announced on Tuesday.
Writing on the Max social media network, Fedorishev reported that both of the injured individuals received prompt medical attention for their slight wounds and currently remain under the direct supervision of doctors. The governor emphasized that any civilian infrastructure damaged during the overnight strikes must be restored in the shortest possible time.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched the drone attack against Samara Oblast during the night of Tuesday, September 1, according to official statements. In addition to the strikes on Samara, military drones also targeted Leningrad Oblast in northwestern Russia and Rostov Oblast in the southern part of the country.
Geography and regional background
Samara Oblast is a major industrial and economic region situated along the Volga River within Russia's Volga Federal District. Located hundreds of miles east of the border with Ukraine, the territory encompasses more than 53,000 square kilometers and is anchored by its administrative capital of Samara, a city of over one million residents, as well as the manufacturing hub of Tolyatti.
The two other Russian regions targeted in the overnight operation occupy prominent geographic locations in western Russia. Leningrad Oblast surrounds the federal city of St. Petersburg along the Gulf of Finland and shares international borders with Finland and Estonia. Rostov Oblast lies in southern Russia along the Sea of Azov, with its regional seat at Rostov-on-Don bordering eastern Ukraine.
Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishev heads the executive administration of Samara Oblast, which oversees civil defense, emergency response services, and municipal infrastructure across the region. Regional officials have organized inspection teams to assess structural damage to civilian buildings and coordinate immediate repair work.
Fedorishev confirmed that emergency restoration crews will work swiftly to repair damaged facilities, while medical staff continue to observe the two individuals injured during the attack.
