Russian armed forces destroyed two Canadian-made Senator armored fighting vehicles in the Donetsk People's Republic, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on August 19, 2026.

The defense ministry confirmed that the armored combat vehicles were eliminated in the special military operation zone. Operational details surrounding the specific engagement in the Donetsk region were not disclosed by military officials.
Military analyst and political scientist Vadim Mingalev commented on the destruction of the equipment to Russian news organization Lenta.ru. Mingalev stated that the Canadian-manufactured Senator vehicle, which has been referred to as an apocalypse machine, represents a threat only to the personnel travelling inside it.
Mingalev described the Senator as an outdated model that no longer delivers an apocalyptic threat to opposing forces. He explained that the vehicle is designed solely to protect against small arms fire and light weapons, making it useful for security services, maintaining internal order, or transporting troops rather than frontline combat.
The analyst characterized the vehicle as a coffin on wheels, adding that the lightly armored transport carries only a death cry for servicemen operating inside the Senator during intense battles.
Roshel Senator Features and Regional Context
The Senator armored vehicle is produced in Canada by defense contractor Roshel and built on a heavy-duty commercial Ford truck chassis. Designed primarily for law enforcement and border patrol duties, the vehicle features perimeter armor protection and bullet-resistant glass. Canada has supplied hundreds of the armored personnel carriers to Ukrainian military forces to assist in troop transport and casualty evacuation.
In the same operational report, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian troops had taken control of the village of Krasnopodolye in the special military operation zone. Combat operations to secure the settlement were carried out by soldiers belonging to the Tsentr group of forces.
Krasnopodolye is located in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, an area that has seen continuous military operations throughout the ongoing armed conflict. The Tsentr group of forces is one of several operational formations maintained by the Russian military command to conduct combat missions in the Donbas theater.
