A Greek police officer born in 1988 was found dead inside a standard service car at the corner of Pikrodafnis and Vouliagmenis streets in Agios Dimitrios, south of Athens. The officer had been reported missing by his partner, and authorities are investigating all possible circumstances surrounding his death.
The officer had abrasions on his neck and bruises on his hands. The service vehicle in which he was found was locked. Officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime were sent to the scene.
What his partner told police
The officer's partner went to the Acropolis Police Station at around 9 p.m. to report him missing, telling officers she had not heard from him since around 10:30 p.m. the previous evening.
The officer served in the Athens Police Patrol Subdirectorate and had been on duty that morning, but he did not report for his shift.
According to his partner, he had no health problems, and there had been no argument between them before he went missing. She said she initially assumed he had gone to work, since he often did that and would return home the following morning.
Phone signal traced to Agios Dimitrios
During the investigation, officers found that the officer's mobile phone remained active. Tracking showed the phone was pinging a cell tower in the Agios Dimitrios area, the same neighborhood where he was ultimately found inside the service car.
He was found dead in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was locked, and he had abrasions on his neck and bruises on his hands.
Authorities are investigating all possible scenarios to establish the exact circumstances of his death. The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime remained at the scene as part of the inquiry.
