Burglars in the Vyronas area are using acid to break front door locks and steal valuables from apartments. Police have observed this unusual tactic during summer months over recent years. Recent incidents occurred in two apartments in Vyronas, where intruders poured liquid onto locks to gain entry.
Method of apartment break-ins
The owner of one targeted home told news channel ANT1 that his family discovered the break-in upon returning home, noting that it may have happened five to seven days earlier. He said his wife tried to open the door and saw a greenish liquid stain underneath. Inside the apartment, they found their belongings turned upside down.
The break-in technique operates silently as the corrosive liquid destroys the inside mechanism of the entrance lock. Perpetrators focus on empty residences while homeowners are away, allowing them to carry out burglaries almost undisturbed.
