A migrant from Morocco died after attempting to cross the border into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on a paraglider.
News agency Europa Press reported that the man fell into the sea during the flight and died, citing sources in the national guard. The incident occurred near the Benzú breakwater in the northern part of the enclave.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased man or any further details about what happened.
Schengen Border Controls
The death follows earlier border measures in southern Europe. Italy unilaterally suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain on July 31 due to a massive flow of migrants from Morocco. The Spanish government responded by strengthening border controls at ports and airports for passengers arriving from Italy.
