Magaly Medina Slams Gisela Valcárcel Over Grammys Invite

Magaly Medina Slams Gisela Valcárcel Over Grammys Invite

Peruvian television presenter Magaly Medina has criticised rival host Gisela Valcárcel after she revealed music producer Sergio George invited her to the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Medina addressed the invitation during her evening entertainment programme on the ATV network, questioning why the veteran presenter agreed to attend the high-profile music ceremony as George's guest on the red carpet.

Valcárcel, who is widely known to Peruvian television audiences by the affectionate nickname Señito, shared news of the trip during an informal live broadcast on TikTok while chatting with a producer.

In the video stream, Valcárcel asked her producer whether he remembered Venezuelan salsa musician Óscar D'León, explaining that George had invited her to the Grammys and suggesting she might run into the singer at the ceremony.

Criticism on Magaly TV

Medina aired the social media recording on her daily entertainment show, Magaly TV: La Firme, where she expressed astonishment at the disclosure and took aim at Valcárcel's public communication style.

The ATV host said she did not understand what was wrong with Valcárcel, criticising her habit of blurting out personal plans and speaking in confusing rambles, known in Spanish as cantinfladas, before revealing George's invitation.

Medina questioned why a television figure of Valcárcel's prominence would agree to serve as an escort for the producer at an international ceremony of such scale.

Laughing on camera, Medina asked whether Valcárcel wanted to walk a Grammy red carpet so badly that she accepted George's invitation, before remarking that people say anything goes during a dry spell.

Sergio George and Peruvian Celebrities

During the programme, Medina noted that the Grammy invitation followed a pattern of recent approaches by George toward high-profile women in the Peruvian entertainment industry.

Medina pointed to George's previous musical partnership with Peruvian salsa singer Yahaira Plasencia, as well as his recent public outing with television actress Magdyel Ugaz.

Ugaz, best known for her long-running role as Teresa Collazos in the popular television comedy series Al Fondo Hay Sitio, accompanied George to the 2026 La Musa Awards ceremony.

According to Medina, Ugaz used that gala to film video clips of the music producer on her mobile phone, before later sharing a message on social media to clarify that she was single.

Decades of Television Rivalry

The dispute marks the latest confrontation in a rivalry between Medina and Valcárcel that has defined Peruvian celebrity journalism and weekend television for more than two decades.

Medina, nicknamed La Urraca by her audience, built her television career on hard-hitting gossip reporting, exposes and commentary on the private affairs of local public figures from her studios in Lima.

Valcárcel established herself as one of the country's leading television personalities in the late 1980s as the presenter of the morning talk show Aló Gisela, later launching her own production company to produce major weekend variety and reality formats.

George is an American music producer, composer and arranger with multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy honours, known across Latin America for producing landmark salsa albums for artists such as Marc Anthony and Celia Cruz.

The Grammy Awards, organized annually in the United States by the Recording Academy, stand as the recording industry's premier global showcase, drawing leading musicians, producers and executives to its televised ceremony.

Valcárcel told viewers on her TikTok broadcast that she planned to travel to the ceremony following George's invitation, where she hoped to attend the main event and cross paths with D'León.
