Gunter Rave sparks backlash after vow to track BTS in Lima

Peruvian television journalist Gunter Rave sparked criticism from BTS fans after announcing on Canal N that he would track the South Korean group in Lima. He told viewers during a live broadcast that his reporting team intended to discover the band's hotel and cover their private itinerary ahead of their upcoming concerts in the Peruvian capital.

Rave made the remarks as Canal N broadcast footage of BTS arriving at Jorge Chávez International Airport on Monday, October 5. The group landed in Lima from Bogotá as part of their ongoing Arirang world tour.

During the report, Rave acknowledged that the band's official fan community, known as ARMY, had explicitly requested media outlets to refrain from publishing information about the musicians' hotel or private movements.

Broadcast Details and Fan Requests

Rave stated on air that while fans maintained great respect for the artists' privacy, journalists did not observe such requests because the arrival was a matter of news gathering. He added that the channel would locate the group's hotel within moments and report on their activities despite the community's objections.

The reporter's comments quickly prompted backlash across social media platforms. Fans questioned his approach and reiterated their concerns over the safety and privacy of band members RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook during their stay in Peru.

Prior to the group's arrival, Peruvian ARMY organizations issued a public appeal asking fans and news outlets not to share unannounced details regarding the band's hotel, travel routes, or personal schedules. The request aimed to prevent large crowds from gathering outside private locations and to minimize potential disruptions while the group and their staff traveled around the city.

Concert Schedule and Background

BTS is a seven-member South Korean boy group formed in Seoul, recognized globally as one of the most successful acts in modern music. Their tour schedule in Peru includes three major performances at the stadium of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, set for October 7, October 9, and October 10.

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, located in Lima, is the oldest officially established university in the Americas, and its stadium regularly hosts large international concert events. Jorge Chávez International Airport serves as Peru's main international gateway, handling major domestic and overseas air traffic.

Canal N is a leading 24-hour cable news station in Peru, where Rave works as a prominent veteran field reporter and news anchor known for covering major live events across the country.

The group's Peruvian performances mark their first appearance in Lima for the Arirang world tour, with organizers and local authorities managing transport and crowd logistics across the three concert dates.
