Fourteen-year-old Vasilis Ziogas, the nephew of late Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, paid tribute to his uncle by performing his hit song Ores Mikres on Instagram.
The musical video was published on Tuesday, September 22, by the music workshop where Ziogas takes vocal lessons. It accumulated more than 1.4 million views in less than 24 hours.
The performance came two weeks after Mazonakis died on September 9 at the age of 54. The late performer was one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Greek popular music, known for his distinctive vocal style and decades of success in the modern laiko genre.
On Wednesday, September 23, Ziogas appeared on the Greek morning television program Super Katerina to discuss the video. He explained that choosing the song Ores Mikres was his personal way of expressing his emotions and saying a final goodbye to his uncle.

Ziogas stated during the broadcast that he sang the composition as he felt required to do given their family relationship. He added that while his instructor regularly uploads performance clips online, he had only anticipated reaching around 100 likes and was surprised by the massive public response.
The teenager's vocal teacher also delivered public comments following the viral success of the recording. The instructor revealed that Ziogas's parents had previously informed him of the family connection to Mazonakis.
The teacher noted that specific vocal characteristics in the boy's singing had caught his attention early on. He said he recognized the relationship through the teenager's natural vocal turns and ornamentations, remarking that the young singer clearly possessed exceptional musical genetics.

Reports also emerged detailing an exchange between medical staff during Mazonakis's final moments. A nurse attending to the singer raised concerns, stating that she did not see him doing well. In response, a physician identified as Dr. Gaka told the nurse that she was the doctor and should not be instructed on how to care for the patient.
