The lawyer for César Sánchez Chavesta, the former musical director of La Bella Luz who has been accused of inappropriate touching by singer Naldy Saldaña, said the video evidence presented against his client must be analysed in its entirety.
Speaking to the press outside the criminal investigation department in San Juan de Lurigancho, the lawyer said the 26-year-old singer had only presented a fragment of the recording. He said the footage should be examined from beginning to end to understand the full context of what happened during the orchestra rehearsal.
In an interview with the television programme América hoy, the legal representative, who withheld his name for security reasons, acknowledged the sensitivity of the allegations. However, he insisted that a longer version of the video from the San Juan de Lurigancho rehearsal exists and must be evaluated.
The lawyer said he understood it was a delicate subject but that only a part of the video had been seen, adding that it needed to be viewed from the beginning until it ended.
La Bella Luz is a Peruvian cumbia orchestra, and Saldaña is one of its vocalists. Sánchez Chavesta served as the group's musical director before the allegations were made public.
Employment future
The lawyer also addressed his client's current situation and future with the band, confirming that Sánchez Chavesta remains in Lima and is complying with all legal proceedings.
He said that if the investigation determines his client is innocent, he should be reinstated in his position at La Bella Luz. He compared the situation to a soap opera that must eventually conclude, expressing hope that it would not end with a prison sentence and that Sánchez Chavesta would be able to return to work.
The lawyer characterised the former director as an ordinary employee who relies on his wages to support his family. He said Sánchez Chavesta is just another worker who lives day to day because he has a salary and a family to maintain, adding that unfortunately everyday people do not see that and rush to demonise.
