Singers from La Bella Luz arrived at the San Juan de Lurigancho Depincri on August 11 to give statements regarding Naldy Saldaña's complaint. Performers Anely Dávila, Ariana Gonzáles, and Fernanda Urbina entered the police facility starting at 9:30 a.m. accompanied by their mothers. Saldaña previously filed a report against former musical director César Sánchez Chavesta for alleged improper touching.
Sánchez Chavesta is the cousin of orchestra owner Óscar Custodio and publicly remains unlocated. According to coverage by reporter Verónica Rondón for the television program América Hoy, defense lawyers for both Sánchez Chavesta and Saldaña also arrived at the station on Tuesday morning. The singers appeared frightened when greeted by press cameras outside the building because they were not expecting media coverage.
Police investigation and testimony
The appearance marks the first formal declarations by members of the Monsefú orchestra regarding the allegations. Their statements will be included in an official report being compiled by the Prosecutor's Office, which opened an ex-officio investigation into the case.
During the América Hoy broadcast, the mother of Ariana Gonzáles reaffirmed that her daughter was unaware of the alleged abuse Saldaña reportedly suffered from the former musical director. The program noted that the proceedings offer the band members a chance to present evidence supporting claims made during a previous La Bella Luz press conference that they had no knowledge of their former colleague's ordeal.
Conflicting claims over text messages
Saldaña and her partner have suggested that fellow band members were aware of the alleged incidents. According to América Hoy, Saldaña's attorney stated that the singer confirmed her former colleagues knew about the abuse and stated that text messages exist demonstrating their knowledge.
