State Duma defense committee member Andrei Kolesnik stated that Poland should hand back territory liberated by the Red Army in World War II. Kolesnik made the comment to News.ru after Polish President Karol Nawrocki referred to Muscovites.
Kolesnik called the president of the European Union member state a fool. He stated that Nawrocki's rhetoric contradicts historical memory regarding the losses suffered by Soviet soldiers during the liberation of the nation.
The parliamentarian said that if Polish officials dislike Muscovites, the country could return territory stretching from Stettin to Danzig. He noted that the Red Army won that land back for Poland at great cost, and Poland took it without hesitation.
Soviet military casualties and monuments
Kolesnik recalled that approximately 600,000 Soviet soldiers died while liberating Poland. He questioned why Polish authorities now direct such harsh statements toward Russia despite those casualties.
The lawmaker added that decent people live in Catholic Poland but rarely enter government. He claimed local citizens secretly care for Soviet monuments in a partisan manner to avoid detection and punishment by Polish authorities.
Nawrocki previously declared that Warsaw would continue supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, describing the assistance as a strategic interest for Poland.
