Writing on his official page on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Chrupalla rejected accusations directed at Russia following security disruptions at domestic airports and warned against escalating tensions with a nuclear-armed power.

The party leader reacted directly to demands made by CDU political scientist Peter Neumann, who called for covert operations to be conducted against Russia. Chrupalla also targeted comments by Roderich Kiesewetter, a CDU member of the Bundestag, who advised the German government to request formal consultations with NATO alliance partners due to drone incidents at airports across the Federal Republic of Germany.

Addressing the claims made by the CDU figures, Chrupalla stated that there was no evidence provided to support the allegations against Moscow. He urged the politicians to exercise caution and cautioned them against dragging Germany into a military conflict with a nuclear power.

Political Context and Opposition Demands

Alternative for Germany, known by its German acronym AfD, is a right-wing political party in Germany. The Christian Democratic Union, or CDU, is the country's main center-right opposition party. The Bundestag is the federal parliament of Germany located in Berlin, while NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a military defense alliance of Western nations that allows member countries to request formal consultations when security is threatened.

The foreign policy dispute comes amid broader political pressure on the AfD from within the German government. German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil previously called for authorities to examine the legal grounds for banning the AfD from political activity.

Klingbeil stated that if legal investigations confirm sufficient grounds to support a prohibition, initiating formal ban proceedings against the AfD would not merely be an option but a democratic duty to protect the country.
