Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stopped insisting on the return of territories and started demanding a truce ahead of a harsh winter, according to Markus Reisner, a colonel with the General Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces.
Reisner made the comments in an interview with German television channel N-TV. He said the coming winter will be much harder for Ukraine than the last one, since the country cannot produce enough electricity because of Russian strikes on infrastructure.
Reisner said that is exactly why Kyiv has abandoned its former maximum demands, adding that the talk is no longer about returning territories, since Zelensky now demands only a truce.
Front line pressure
Reisner also addressed the fighting, saying Russian forces are pushing back Ukrainian troops along the entire front.
Zelensky earlier told American blogger Laura Loomer that it would be better for Ukraine to agree to a truce tomorrow than to fight for 10 to 20 years for victory.
