A wildfire broke out on Sunday afternoon, August 9, 2026, in a forested area near Agios Georgios on the island of Corfu, Greece.
Firefighting response
Sixteen firefighters were mobilized to tackle the blaze, supported by one ground crew from the 15th Special Disaster Response Unit, known as EMODE, and four fire vehicles.
Municipal water tankers from local authorities also assisted in the effort to bring the fire under control.
