Greek production company Finos Film has honored the memory of actor Dimitris Papamichael to mark 22 years since his death.
Papamichael died on August 8, 2004, at the age of 69 following a heart attack. On Saturday, Finos Film published a tribute video featuring scenes of the late actor from classic Greek cinema.
In its post, the company described Papamichael as the charming lad of Greek cinema, paying tribute to his long artistic contribution.
Career Beginnings at Finos Film
According to the post caption, Papamichael began his film career at Finos Film in 1957. He played a small role in the movie Aunt from Chicago alongside Georgia Vasileiadou, which the company said heralded the arrival of a major new star.
Two years later, producer Philopoimen Finos recognized the potential of an on-screen partnership destined to make history. He paired Papamichael with actress Aliki Vougiouklaki in the 1959 film Astero.
Legacy and On-Screen Partnership
Finos Film stated that the chemistry between Papamichael and Vougiouklaki was immediate. Their partnership took off that same year with The Flogging Came from Paradise, which became one of the highest-grossing films in Greek cinema history.
Finos Film concluded its tribute by noting that 22 years after his death, it remembers Papamichael not only as a great actor, but as an artist who, together with Vougiouklaki, remained an integral part of the production company's family.
