A woman using the Reddit username Mediocre_master has written that she no longer trusts her husband after he took a female friend of hers on a climbing trip in the couple's Mercedes Sprinter campervan. She said she suspects he was unfaithful, though she has not found proof.
She wrote that a few weeks earlier, her husband had driven to a climbing trip in their Sprinter van with a woman she knows. On a Sunday, she said, she was suddenly overcome by an uneasy feeling and texted him about it. He replied that the woman had stayed overnight in the van with him. She said she was angry that he shared such a small space with another woman overnight without asking her first.
Silence and distance after the trip
According to her account, her husband avoided the subject once he returned home and seemed to withdraw from her. At the same time, she said, he kept messaging the other woman constantly. After watching this go on for several weeks, she said she broke down in tears out of frustration.
She said she was certain there had been no physical affair, and not even a full emotional one, between her husband and the other woman. But she said the two were clearly flirting and paying attention to each other. She said he took down photographs of the couple that had hung in the van, changed his phone wallpaper from a picture of her, and did not call her while he was away with the other woman. She also said he texted the woman even while sitting next to her.
"I felt betrayed," she wrote.
Threat of divorce
She said she then threatened her husband with divorce. He promised to change and to spend more time with her, she wrote, but he has not brought himself to cut off contact with the woman from the van. She said she now fears her marriage will fall apart because of, in her words, "this idiot."
