Serbian lawmaker Milos Jovanovic called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Belgrade unnecessary in comments to news agency TASS.
Jovanovic, co-chairman of the opposition New Democratic Party of Serbia, said his party fully understands that the conflict is not a war between Ukraine and Russia, but a war being waged by the West against Russia through Ukraine.
Belgrade Talks and European Course
Zelenskyy arrived in Belgrade on August 8, where he was received by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. The two leaders held face-to-face negotiations and led meetings between delegation teams from both countries. Following the talks, the Serbian president declared support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Sinisa Atlagic, a doctor of political sciences and professor at Belgrade University, said Vucic needed the trip by the Ukrainian president to demonstrate the Balkan republic's pro-European course.
