The National Bank of Ukraine strengthened the official hryvnia rate against the US dollar by eight kopiykas on Thursday, August 20, setting it at 44.70 hryvnias per dollar.
Data published on the regulator website showed the Ukrainian currency lost ground against the euro. The official euro exchange rate for Thursday was fixed at 51.87 hryvnias per euro, representing a decline of four kopiykas for the hryvnia.
Trading on the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine closed at 16:00 with hryvnia quotations against the US dollar standing at 44.71 to 44.74 hryvnias per dollar. Interbank quotations for the euro settled at 51.89 to 51.91 hryvnias per euro.
Commercial bank rates and PrivatBank
Across commercial banks in Ukraine on August 19, the average rate for the US dollar remained unchanged at 45.03 hryvnias per dollar, while customers could sell American currency at an average rate of 44.55 hryvnias per dollar. The average rate for the euro dropped by three kopiykas to 52.15 hryvnias per euro, with the average selling rate standing at 51.54 hryvnias per euro.
At PrivatBank, the dollar rate fell by nine kopiykas to 44.90 hryvnias per dollar, with customers able to sell US currency at 44.30 hryvnias per dollar. The euro rate at PrivatBank decreased by five kopiykas to 52.10 hryvnias per euro, while selling European currency to the bank was set at 51.10 hryvnias per euro.
