The movement represents a gain of 18 kopecks for the Ukrainian currency compared to its previous level, according to official data published on the regulator's website. The hryvnia also gained ground against the euro, with the central bank establishing Thursday's official rate at 50.72 hryvnias per euro, marking a strengthening of 21 kopecks.
On the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market, trading settled by 4:00 p.m. with hryvnia quotations standing at 44.68 to 44.73 hryvnias per dollar. Interbank rates against the euro were established at 50.74 to 50.77 hryvnias per euro. The interbank market functions as the wholesale trading platform where financial institutions exchange foreign currency reserves.
Commercial Bank Exchange Rates
The National Bank of Ukraine operates as the country's central monetary regulator, overseeing currency stability and issuing the national currency, the hryvnia, which is divided into 100 kopecks. Daily official rates set by the regulator serve as key reference points for commercial financial institutions operating across the nation.
Retail exchange rates at commercial banks on September 30 reflected similar movements across the country. The average bank exchange rate for the US dollar decreased by 7 kopecks to 45.09 hryvnias per dollar, while customers could sell American currency at an average rate of 44.57 hryvnias per dollar. The average euro rate in banks fell by 14 kopecks to 51.34 hryvnias per euro, with purchase rates averaging 50.67 hryvnias per euro.
At PrivatBank, the dollar rate fell by 20 kopecks to 44.95 hryvnias per dollar, while the euro rate decreased by 25 kopecks to 51.20 hryvnias per euro. The institution set rates for customers selling US currency at 44.35 hryvnias per dollar and euro at 50.20 hryvnias per unit. PrivatBank is Ukraine's largest commercial bank, serving millions of retail and corporate clients nationwide.
