The National Bank of Ukraine strengthened the official exchange rate of the hryvnia against the euro on Wednesday, September 23, while the currency slipped against the US dollar.
Data published on the central bank website showed the official rate for the euro was set at 51.33 hryvnias, representing a gain of four kopiyoks for the Ukrainian currency. At the same time, the official rate for the US dollar was set at 44.79 hryvnias, marking a drop of eight kopiyoks compared to the previous setting.
The National Bank of Ukraine acts as the country's central monetary authority, issuing the national currency and establishing daily benchmark rates for foreign currencies. One hryvnia is divided into 100 kopiyoks.
Interbank Market and Commercial Rates
Activity on the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market reflected similar movements by 4:00 p.m. Foreign exchange quotes for the US dollar stood at 44.77 to 44.80 hryvnias, while quotes for the euro reached 51.33 to 51.35 hryvnias.
Commercial bank rates on September 22 showed the dollar rising by one kopiyok to reach an average of 45.02 hryvnias per dollar. Members of the public could sell US dollars to commercial banks at an average purchase rate of 44.43 hryvnias. The average euro exchange rate increased by six kopiyoks to 51.85 hryvnias per euro, with banks buying European currency at an average rate of 51.06 hryvnias.
Ukraine's interbank market allows commercial financial institutions to trade currency reserves directly, providing the pricing foundation for retail operations across the country.
PrivatBank Foreign Exchange Rates
At PrivatBank, exchange rates for both major foreign currencies remained unchanged on September 22. The bank maintained its dollar rate at 44.90 hryvnias per dollar and its euro rate at 51.70 hryvnias per euro. Customers selling foreign currency to the bank received 44.30 hryvnias per US dollar and 50.70 hryvnias per euro.
State-owned PrivatBank is Ukraine's largest commercial financial institution, serving millions of retail customers and business clients across the country.
