The National Bank of Ukraine has strengthened the official rate of the hryvnia for Tuesday, September 29, setting it at 44.82 hryvnias to the U.S. dollar.
The Ukrainian currency gained two kopiykas against the dollar compared to the previous official benchmark, according to data published on the regulator website.
Against the euro, the hryvnia also posted gains, rising by 17 kopiykas to an official rate of 50.97 hryvnias for one euro.
The National Bank of Ukraine acts as the state central bank, overseeing monetary policy and setting daily exchange reference rates used by commercial financial institutions across the country.
Interbank trading and commercial banks
On the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market, currency quotes settled by 16:00 at 44.87 to 45.90 hryvnias per dollar. The interbank euro rate stood at 51.02 to 51.04 hryvnias per euro at the same cutoff time.
The interbank market serves as the wholesale trading platform where commercial institutions trade foreign currencies before retail prices adjust for individual consumers.
In commercial banks across Ukraine on September 28, the average exchange rate for the U.S. dollar dropped by 14 kopiykas to 45.09 hryvnias per dollar. Consumers could sell American currency to banks at an average buying rate of 44.55 hryvnias per dollar.
The average commercial euro rate fell by five kopiykas to 51.55 hryvnias per euro, while retail outlets offered to purchase European currency from the public at 50.84 hryvnias per euro.
PrivatBank exchange adjustments
At PrivatBank, the exchange rate for the U.S. dollar declined by 10 kopiykas to 45 hryvnias per dollar. Customers at the lender could sell dollars at a rate of 44.40 hryvnias.
The rate for the euro at PrivatBank also fell by 10 kopiykas to 51.40 hryvnias per euro. The bank set its buying rate for European currency at 50.40 hryvnias per euro.
Headquartered in Kyiv, state-owned PrivatBank is the largest commercial bank in Ukraine by asset volume, serving millions of retail customers whose financial transactions rely heavily on daily exchange movements.
