A court in Russia's Sverdlovsk region has sentenced a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk holding Russian citizenship to 13 years in a strict-regime penal colony for transferring funds to support Ukrainian organizations. The regional court press service announced the sentence to Lenta.ru.
The convict was also ordered to pay a fine of 300,000 rubles after being found guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which governs high treason. Article 275 carries severe penalties for citizens who provide financial or material assistance to foreign entities acting against state security. Treason trials in Russia are typically conducted behind closed doors.

According to prosecutors, the man initiated the monetary transfers on his own accord to assist Ukrainian organizations. Investigators stated that the money was used to purchase tactical medical gear, equipment, ammunition, and military vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Financial transfers and airport arrest
Court records show that the defendant made 11 separate financial transactions between May 2023 and October 2025. Each transfer was worth approximately 100 Ukrainian hryvnias, amounting to more than 5,000 Russian rubles in total when converted.
Security forces arrested the man in 2025 at Koltsovo Airport when he arrived in the region to visit his mother. Located near Yekaterinburg, Koltsovo Airport serves as the primary international aviation hub for the Sverdlovsk region in the Urals.
The convict resides in Ivano-Frankivsk, a major city in western Ukraine. Strict-regime penal colonies in the Russian correctional system feature tight security protocols, isolation regimes, and restricted visitor rights compared to general-regime facilities.
Yaroslavl cemetery investigation
In another case referenced by court officials, the Yaroslavl Regional Court received a criminal file concerning a 48-year-old local resident accused of gathering intelligence at military graves.
Investigators allege the man walked through regional cemeteries to collect data from the burial sites of Russian service members killed during the special military operation in Ukraine. Russian authorities use the term special military operation to refer to the military campaign in Ukraine, and regional courts across Russia have processed numerous espionage and treason indictments since the conflict began.
