Peruvian reality television star Rosángela Espinoza has explained why she paid the restaurant bill during a recent outing with her castmate Leandro Cabello, stating that she suggested the stop and wanted dessert.
Espinoza addressed the situation on the Thursday, August 27 broadcast of the Peruvian reality competition show Esto es guerra, after media footage circulated showing her paying the bill while out with Cabello, a Venezuelan athlete.
The broadcast conversation followed public speculation surrounding the outing, which occurred over the preceding weekend after both personalities attended a social gathering in Lima.
Shared taxi ride and restaurant outing
According to Espinoza, the outing took place after both she and Cabello attended the birthday party of Peter Fajardo, the producer of Esto es guerra. Because the two colleagues live close to each other, they decided to share a taxi ride home after leaving the celebration.
Espinoza explained that since it was only 9:00 p.m. when they departed the party, she suggested stopping for coffee so they could converse. The pair ultimately ended up at a restaurant so Cabello could order a drink.
When questioned by show hosts about the restaurant video, Espinoza initially indicated that she preferred not to discuss her personal life. However, seconds later she stated that she would not act like media figure Kevin Díaz and chose to respond directly to the ongoing discussion because she is a public figure.
Financial independence and dating views
Espinoza clarified that Cabello had paid for the taxi ride and had offered to pay the restaurant bill as well. She stated that she insisted on covering the check because she was the one who invited him out and wanted to order dessert, adding that she had a great time during the outing.
Describing herself as an entrepreneurial woman with strong financial earnings, Espinoza asserted that she has the means to cover expenses when going out with friends. She noted that she had previously covered bills during outings with other friends, including fellow television personality Patricio Parodi.
Espinoza also detailed her views on relationship finances, drawing a clear distinction between casual friendships and romantic relationships. She remarked that she is not fellow television personality Alejandra Baigorria, explaining that if Cabello were her romantic partner she would not agree to split expenses 50-50. However, because Cabello is simply a friend, she asked the show hosts why it should be considered problematic for her to treat a friend to coffee or dessert.
Confirmation of friendship
Cabello confirmed Espinoza's account during the television broadcast, stating that everything she said about their outing was true. He confirmed that they live near each other, traveled together, had coffee, and discussed their work on Esto es guerra.
Cabello added that when he has a romantic interest in a woman, he does not permit her to pay the bill. He stated that the fact Espinoza covered the check demonstrates that their relationship is strictly a friendship.
The public clarification comes during a period of notable events for Espinoza. In previous weeks, she reported experiencing an altercation with fellow cast member Melissa Loza, and she recently shared a message mourning the loss of a loved one. Espinoza has also spoken publicly about overcoming obstacles to complete her university degree, managing setbacks in her television career, and preparing to launch a new project.
