Russian singer Rodion Gazmanov has called for American rapper Kanye West to be banned from performing concerts in Saint Petersburg.
Speaking to the Russian news agency TASS, Gazmanov stated that he is sharply opposed to any stage appearances by West anywhere in Russia.
Gazmanov argued that an artist who has sold T-shirts displaying Nazi symbols should not be allowed to perform in the country. He noted that such concert appearances are particularly unacceptable in Saint Petersburg because of the city's history of surviving the blockade during World War II.
Opposition to Nazi Symbolism in Russia
Gazmanov emphasized that while Russia remains open to visits from Western show business stars, no artist who has tarnished their reputation with Nazi symbolism should be permitted to hold concerts in the nation.

The devastating military blockade by Nazi forces lasted nearly nine hundred days, resulting in immense human suffering and civilian casualties. Because of this history, public references to Nazi symbols remain a deeply sensitive topic across the country.

Gazmanov's stance follows contrasting comments from fellow Russian rapper Basta, who recently invited Kanye West to tour Russia. Basta encouraged the American musician to travel around the country and invited him to attend his own concerts in the southern cities of Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don.
Basta defended West, describing him as a remarkably talented musician, an industry reformer, and a good person who has experienced personal hardships. Basta said that West's life has not been easy and that his mental health struggles have sometimes manifested in scandalous public moments.
Kanye West, who also goes by the name Ye, is an influential American rapper, producer, and fashion designer who has frequently generated controversy over public statements and apparel designs.
