A 44-year-old woman named Olga Sh. has died in hospital in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk after her cohabitant took her hostage and repeatedly slashed her with knives during a domestic dispute, Russian media reported.
The victim was rushed to an emergency medical facility in grave condition following a tactical raid on the apartment, but medical staff were unable to save her life due to the severity of the wounds she sustained.
Hostage incident in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk
The hostage situation unfolded in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk after Olga Sh. managed to contact police emergency services herself from inside the residential flat. She informed dispatchers that her 47-year-old cohabitant, identified as Aleksei T., was holding her against her will and threatening her with two knives.
Police units immediately deployed to the apartment building and initiated negotiations with the armed man. As negotiations progressed without a peaceful resolution, law enforcement commanders determined that an emergency storming of the premises was necessary to intervene.
According to the Telegram channel 112, Aleksei T. inflicted multiple knife wounds on his partner while barricaded inside the apartment. Security forces breached the dwelling and apprehended him, opening fire with their standard-issue service weapons during the raid.
Officers confirmed that the suspect was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication during the encounter. Aleksei T. received a gunshot wound when law enforcement forces opened fire and was subsequently transported to a hospital for emergency treatment under police guard.
