A 37-year-old Russian man has been sentenced to eight years in a penal colony for attempting to murder his subordinate in the city of Obninsk.
The ruling was confirmed by the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, which investigated the violent stabbing that occurred following an argument between the manager and his employee.

Investigators stated that the 37-year-old convict had experienced unresolved professional differences with his 44-year-old subordinate. In an attempt to settle their disputes, the manager scheduled a meeting on April 9, 2026, outside a residential building on Lenin Avenue in Obninsk. The suspect was intoxicated when he arrived for the confrontation.
The meeting quickly broke down into violence when the manager drew a knife and rushed at his colleague. During the ensuing struggle, the assailant repeatedly stabbed the victim, inflicting severe knife wounds to the man's neck, head, and forearm.
The 44-year-old victim offered fierce resistance during the assault, fighting off his employer until he was able to break free. The injured worker escaped from the scene on foot and immediately called emergency services to request an ambulance.
Investigative authority and regional context
Obninsk is a major industrial and research hub situated in Kaluga Oblast in western Russia, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Moscow along the Protva River. The city is officially designated as a science city in Russia and is historically known for housing the world's first grid-connected nuclear power plant.
The case was processed by the regional branch of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, known locally as the SKR. Operating as Russia's primary federal law enforcement agency for major crimes, the committee conducts pre-trial investigations into violent offences, homicide, and high-profile criminal matters across all Russian regions. Sentences imposed in such criminal cases are served in penal colonies overseen by federal prison authorities.
Separately, law enforcement authorities in the southern Russian region of Astrakhan previously launched a criminal investigation into the killing of a 54-year-old local woman.
