New Democracy maintains an 8.9 percentage point lead over the Greek Left Alignment party led by Alexis Tsipras, according to a new opinion poll by RealPolls for news website Protagon.
The survey shows governing New Democracy retaining its clear lead despite dropping to 24 percent in voting intention, down from 25.8 percent in June. The Greek Left Alignment, known as ELAS, fell to 15.1 percent from 18.2 percent in the previous survey, while PASOK-Movement for Change placed third with 9.4 percent.
Hope for Democracy, led by Maria Karystianou, secured fourth place with 6 percent in voting intention. It is followed by the Communist Party of Greece and Greek Solution at 4.8 percent each, Course of Freedom at 4.2 percent, and Voice of Reason at 3.7 percent.
MeRA25 scored 2.4 percent, falling below the 3 percent threshold required to enter the Hellenic Parliament. Former ruling party SYRIZA, Niki, and New Left each gathered 0.8 percent.
Election projection and party standings
In the election result projection, New Democracy rises to 29.7 percent from 28.3 percent last June, outperforming its result from the 2024 European elections. The party led by Alexis Tsipras drops 3.5 percentage points to 17.9 percent, widening the ruling party's lead over ELAS back into double digits at 11.8 percentage points.
PASOK-KINAL climbs to 10.8 percent in the result projection, followed by Hope for Democracy at 7.5 percent, Greek Solution at 6.2 percent, and KKE at 5.8 percent. Course of Freedom reached 4.9 percent and Voice of Reason reached 4.6 percent, while MeRA25 at 2.5 percent and SYRIZA at 0.8 percent remained outside parliamentary representation limits.
Thessaloniki fair performance and public trust
When asked which of the three main parties best convinced citizens during their speeches at the Thessaloniki International Fair, an annual political and economic forum, 47 percent of respondents answered none of them. New Democracy convinced 27 percent, ELAS convinced 11.4 percent, and PASOK convinced 9.4 percent.
On the question of which party citizens trust the most, the response of none dominated again at 41.7 percent. New Democracy followed with 29 percent, ELAS recorded 16.1 percent, and PASOK gathered 11.5 percent.
Regarding interest in specific policy measures announced at the fair, 21.9 percent of respondents favored New Democracy's proposal for a 1,000 euro minimum wage by 2028, though 30 percent chose none of the options from the ruling party's list. For PASOK, 29.1 percent selected restoring the 13th monthly salary and 13th pension, while 17.8 percent backed a four-day work week without pay reductions.
From the ELAS proposal list, reducing value added tax on basic goods to 6 percent came first at 26.6 percent, followed by establishing a 1,000 euro minimum wage during 2027 at 12.4 percent.
Political clashes and election outcome expectations
Regarding which party won the political debates of recent weeks, 44.6 percent of respondents said none of the top three parties gained an advantage. New Democracy was viewed as the winner by 24.7 percent, close to its voting intention score, while Alexis Tsipras's party was limited to 11.2 percent, well below its voting intention level, and PASOK-KINAL reached 8.5 percent.
Looking ahead to the next national election, 44.2 percent of respondents believe the governing party will win, compared to 6.2 percent for ELAS and 2 percent for PASOK-KINAL. However, 40.3 percent chose the option that no party would secure a clear victory.
A majority of 71.2 percent estimated that New Democracy will probably or definitely fail to win a single-party majority, while 26.3 percent expected the party to achieve self-reliance. While the survey confirms New Democracy's position as the political favorite, most voters do not view single-party governance as likely.
Finally, when asked about the overall direction of Greece, 67.1 percent of citizens answered that the country is moving in the wrong direction, while 29.6 percent stated it is moving in the right direction.
