The National Bank of Ukraine put two new 10-hryvnia commemorative coins into circulation on August 28, dedicated to the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions.
The central bank is issuing a mintage of two million pieces for each coin. Both pieces are manufactured from a nickel-coated zinc alloy and serve as official legal tender across the country.
The obverse side of both coins is identical to the standard circulating 10-hryvnia piece, created by artist and sculptor Volodymyr Demianenko. The reverse side, designed by Oleksandra Kuchynska, displays a map of Ukraine highlighting the respective region.
The National Bank of Ukraine, headquartered in Kyiv, regularly issues commemorative currency to highlight national heritage and regional contributions. The hryvnia has served as Ukraine's national currency since 1996.
Regional roles during wartime
National Bank of Ukraine Governor Andriy Pyshnyi stated that Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions each had their own character and role, but both performed vital work for the country every day.
Pyshnyi said Dnipropetrovsk Region had lived near the front line for many years, treating wounded soldiers, housing displaced residents from frontline areas, and hosting relocated businesses while continuing to operate.
He added that Kirovohrad Region, situated further from the front line, had welcomed people forced from their homes, provided a new location for relocated enterprises, supported the military, and assisted neighboring areas.
Dnipropetrovsk Region, centered on the industrial city of Dnipro in east-central Ukraine, has functioned as a major logistical and medical hub during the war. Kirovohrad Region, an agricultural area in central Ukraine based around Kropyvnytskyi, has absorbed thousands of evacuees from war zones.
Coin distribution and purchasing options
The National Bank of Ukraine plans to introduce all four million coins into regular cash circulation gradually. Both coins will be accepted throughout Ukraine at their face value of 10 hryvnias.
A portion of the mintage is being packaged into souvenir rolls of 25 coins, with 15,000 rolls produced for each regional design. Collectors and the public can buy these rolls through the central bank's online numismatic store and authorized distributor banks.
The broader regional coin series
The two releases belong to the thematic series titled "We are strong. We are together", which the central bank launched in December 2025 to honor Ukrainian territories.
The series previously introduced commemorative coins dedicated to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.
The central bank has released several other commemorative coins recently. On August 24, it issued a coin marking the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence as part of the "Ukrainian State" series.
Earlier, on June 28, the bank introduced a coin celebrating 30 Years of the Constitution of Ukraine, followed on July 28 by a commemorative coin marking the Day of Honoring those Killed in Captivity.
