Miss Dominican Republic Universe Melissa Núñez celebrated in Santo Domingo after five young Dominicans set a new Guinness World Record by reading aloud for more than 500 hours.

Santo Domingo, the nation's capital and largest city, hosted the celebration following the record-breaking reading marathon. Guinness World Records, headquartered in London, serves as the global authority for verifying world record achievements across numerous categories, including endurance reading marathons.
Personal History with Reading
Núñez also spoke about her personal relationship with books, explaining that she has maintained a close connection to reading since childhood. She recalled participating frequently in academic and cultural activities during her school years, including projects linked to the United Nations and the Bicentennial of Juan Pablo Duarte.
Juan Pablo Duarte was a nineteenth century political leader and writer who is celebrated as one of the principal founding fathers of the Dominican Republic. The United Nations is an international organisation that promotes global education, youth empowerment, and cultural initiatives worldwide.
In addition, Núñez recounted taking part in regional reading competitions in the Cibao region while attending school. Cibao is the northern agricultural and cultural heartland of the Dominican Republic, home to major cities and prominent educational institutions.
Because of her own upbringing, Núñez said she felt a strong personal affinity with the young record setters. She offered her congratulations to the participants involved in the feat and to the supporting institutions that backed them, including the Ministry of Youth.
