Peruvian television presenter Magaly Medina has publicly criticised a podcast hosted by her close friend Maria Pia Copello after race car driver Mario Hart released a song mocking the equal division of household expenses following his split from Korina Rivadeneira.
Speaking on her ATV television show, Medina praised Hart for addressing his marital breakdown calmly and truthfully, but argued that the comedy song ruined what had otherwise been a respectful public defense.
Praise for a measured defense
Medina observed that Hart appeared calm and measured during his appearance on the YouTube podcast Sin mas que decirlo, which he hosts alongside Copello. She noted that the driver spoke from a place of truth and refrained from making negative comments about Rivadeneira, the mother of his children.
The television host highlighted that Hart could easily have responded with anger or impulsiveness, particularly after Rivadeneira previously published a detailed catharsis on her social media accounts that left him facing widespread criticism. Instead, Medina commended him for avoiding a media war and maintaining a dignified stance during the broadcast.
During the podcast episode, Hart addressed several controversial claims surrounding the end of their relationship. He denied allegations that he had threatened to take away their daughter in the event of a separation, asserting that he had not placed any obstacles in Rivadeneira's way.
Advice on public exposure
Hart also reflected on the factors that led to the end of their relationship, admitting that both partners had made mistakes that ultimately caused the breakup. He acknowledged their shared responsibility for the errors that brought their time together to a close.
Furthermore, Hart suggested that Rivadeneira should avoid excessive public exposure to prevent future misunderstandings and media backlash. He referenced an incident where she went on stage during a concert by the Venezuelan reggae band Rawayana, warning that such public appearances make her vulnerable to misinterpretation and harsh public scrutiny.
Although Medina had previously questioned Hart the week before regarding his practice of splitting household expenses strictly 50/50 with Rivadeneira, she admitted that her perspective shifted after listening to his detailed explanation on the program.
Criticism of the podcast song
Medina stated that Hart's respectful posture was completely undermined when the podcast introduced a humorous song about dividing expenses equally.
Medina described the track as silly and unnecessary, arguing that it ruined all the gentlemanliness and care Hart had demonstrated when discussing delicate marital issues. She remarked that while he could have concluded his defense with dignity, the mockery degraded his message.
The host emphasised that people must recognise when it is appropriate to joke and when seriousness is required. She added that while certain situations benefit from irony, sarcasm, or sharp wit, personal marital breakdowns and family matters are topics that should never be turned into a joke.
Medina concluded by stating she did not know who came up with the unfortunate idea for the song, but insisted that it failed to close Hart's defense properly. She noted that while the podcast hosts may have found the song funny, the general public clearly did not.
