Peruvian musician Jeffry Fischman, founder of the rock band Libido, has expressed satisfaction after music publication Billboard named the group among the 50 best rock bands in history.
The announcement coincides with the release of Fischman's new alternative pop rock solo single, Verte, which addresses the emotional challenges that follow a relationship breakup.
Fischman said the international recognition demonstrated that global audiences value Peruvian rock despite the limited broadcast exposure the genre frequently receives at home.
He added that the inclusion places the band back on the international stage and confirms that Peruvian music holds a significant place in rock history.
Formed in Lima, Peru, in the late 1990s, Libido became one of the country's most successful rock acts, securing international honors including awards from music network MTV and performing on major concert stages.
Billboard ranking and group legacy
Reflecting on the band's career, Fischman noted that the Billboard mention serves as recognition for both Libido and the broader national rock scene.
The founder's relationship with Libido's ongoing musical output has included legal constraints. Fischman previously prohibited Salim Vera, the band's former lead vocalist, from continuing to perform Libido's songs.
Fischman has also revisited the group's material through his solo career, releasing updated versions of classic tracks including Invencible, which he said helped him understand who he is today.
He also launched a new version of En esta habitación, a track recognized as a landmark anthem in Spanish-language rock.
New solo track Verte
Alongside the band recognition, Fischman is developing his solo trajectory as a singer and producer with the release of Verte.
The track explores the feelings that arise when a person realizes they cannot envision life without someone special, despite trying to move on from the relationship.
Fischman composed the song after returning from the United States, where he gathered new personal and musical experiences. The lyrics move between desire and conflict, truth and deception, as well as tenderness and emotional dependency.
Explaining how the song was created, Fischman said Verte emerged from his subconscious while he worked on the melody. He said initial words often arise from an imaginary world before gradually taking shape into a defined theme.
He added that the song examines the varying intensity of needing another person, ranging from sweet affection to painful attachment, existing somewhere between reality and fantasy.
