Latvian singer Laima Vaikule, who lived and worked in Russia for a long time, said she is ready to fight Russians if Russia attacks Latvia.

Speaking in an interview with the radio station Deutsche Welle, which is recognized in Russia as a foreign agent media outlet, Vaikule was asked what she would do if Russia attacks Latvia. The performer of the song Vernisazh stated that she would take an assault rifle.
However, Vaikule immediately qualified her statement by adding that she hopes for a peaceful outcome in relations between the countries. She explained that she considers herself an optimist and remains so all the time.

Vaikule previously admitted that she is studying the Russian language. She stated that musician Andrei Makarevich, who left Russia and is recognized by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, is helping her improve her Russian.
