A 27-year-old man will stand trial in Russia's Kostroma Oblast after breaking into a woman's home and attempting to rape her, regional investigators said.

The Kostroma regional directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation confirmed the case to news outlet Lenta.ru, stating that the suspect failed to carry out his criminal intent because the victim put up active resistance.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 27 in the village of Nezhitino. According to detectives, the 27-year-old local resident entered the woman's house without permission and attacked her with the intention of raping her, but was stopped when she fought back.
Criminal Charges and Detention
Following the incident, law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case against the local man under Article 30 and Article 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which cover attempted rape. He also faces charges under Article 139 of the criminal code for the unlawful entry into a private home.
At the request of the investigator, a court ordered the man remanded into custody as a preventive measure while detectives carried out their inquiry. Officials confirmed that the preliminary investigation has now assembled a sufficient body of evidence, and the complete criminal case file has been transferred to court for trial on the merits.
Investigation in Kostroma Region
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, commonly known as Sledkom, operates as the nation's main federal criminal investigative authority. Modeled independently of local police forces, the agency handles the investigation of severe felonies, including violent assaults, sexual offenses, and constitutional violations across all federal subjects.
Kostroma Oblast is a federal subject located in European Russia, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Moscow. The village of Nezhitino is a remote rural locality within the province, where serious criminal offenses fall directly under the jurisdiction of regional investigative officers based in the territory.
The 27-year-old defendant remains held in pre-trial detention awaiting his court appearance. Under Russian criminal procedure, the court will now examine the evidence presented by prosecutors in a trial on the merits to determine guilt and decide a verdict under the criminal statutes.
