Greek singer Konni Metaxa said she has stopped letting online criticism affect her, months after her divorce from water polo player Marios Kapotsis, telling her followers on Instagram that being judged over her personal life pushed her to start doing exactly what she wants on stage.
Metaxa and Kapotsis were married for about two and a half years before the couple decided to go their separate ways in 2025.
Addressing her followers directly, Metaxa said she had been criticized heavily online because of the change in her personal life. She said she has since stopped letting other people's comments affect her and now intends to make her own choices. She raised the subject while explaining a different approach she has adopted for her live performances.
Preparing for a new concert
Metaxa said she was getting ready for the first and only rehearsal she planned to do before her upcoming concert. She told her followers she was not sure they all knew what she actually does on stage, and said she decided to film herself while preparing in order to explain it to them. She said she has always liked making people laugh, and that this had been her only goal in life since she was a child.
From acting school to singing
Metaxa said that in the past she used to try to do something different on stage. She revealed she had studied acting, musical theatre and directing, along with other related disciplines, for four years. She said that when she first started singing, she had not realized she could use what she had learned during those studies on stage. At some point, she said, that earlier pursuit stopped interesting her.
Metaxa is a singer known in Greece for her music career, and her comments suggest her theatrical training now shapes how she performs live, beyond simply singing.
Responding to criticism over the divorce
Metaxa said that after she divorced and faced widespread criticism, she decided that she would stop caring what people said about her. She said she thought that since people were already criticizing her, she might as well do what she wanted. She said she had always done this to some extent, but decided to fully commit to singing the songs she wants, in the way she wants, while mixing in comic, stand-up-style segments between songs to make audiences laugh.
She said the answer to what she does when she takes the stage is simply everything, adding that she says whatever comes to mind and that people would understand if they came to see one of her live shows. She said she was explaining all of this because she felt her followers did not know what to expect from her performances, and because she wanted them to come see her in person.
