Independiente del Valle beat Delfín 3-2 to reach 10 straight wins in the Ecuadorian league, closing on El Nacional's 50-year-old record of 11 victories.

Independiente del Valle win 10th straight match in Ecuador

Independiente del Valle secured their 10th consecutive victory on Friday, August 14, defeating Delfín 3-2 in matchday 25 of the 2026 Liga Ecuabet.

The victory leaves the Sangolquí team, coached by Joaquín Papa, just one win away from equaling the historic national record held by El Nacional for 50 years.

El Nacional set the national record of 11 consecutive wins during the First Stage of the 1976 Ecuadorian Championship, a mark that remains undefeated in domestic football history.

Independiente del Valle, based in Sangolquí in Pichincha Province, are top-flight regulars in Ecuador's Liga Pro, while capital club El Nacional are historically known as the military team or 'los puros criollos.'

Ten victories in a row

Independiente del Valle's 10-match winning streak began following a 2-4 defeat against Libertad. Since that loss, the Rayados have remained unbeaten across 10 league fixtures.

They launched the sequence with a 4-2 home win over Guayaquil City, before securing a 1-0 away victory against Manta to maintain their momentum.

A 2-0 victory against Mushuc Runa brought up their third straight win, followed by a 2-1 away triumph over Aucas to give the Sangolquí side four consecutive victories.

The largest margin of victory in the run came against Emelec, whom Independiente del Valle defeated 6-1. They then claimed a 1-0 victory on the road against Técnico Universitario for their sixth consecutive success.

As league leaders, the Rayados extended their sequence to seven victories with a 2-0 win against Orense, followed by an 0-1 away triumph against Deportivo Cuenca.

In their ninth match of the streak, Independiente del Valle beat Liga de Quito 1-0, overcoming one of their main title pursuers to move within two wins of the record. They secured their 10th straight victory against Delfín, suffering until the final whistle to win 3-2.

El Nacional record from 1976

El Nacional established the national record of 11 consecutive victories during the First Stage of the 1976 Ecuadorian Championship, winning every match between matchday 6 and matchday 16.

That winning sequence formed part of a landmark season for the club, who finished as national champions before establishing a period of dominance in Ecuadorian football.

During their 11-match run in 1976, El Nacional recorded wins against Emelec, Aucas, Liga de Quito, Barcelona SC, 9 de Octubre, Deportivo Cuenca, América de Quito, Universidad Católica, Audaz Octubrino, and second victories over both Emelec and Aucas.

Next fixture in Ibarra

Independiente del Valle will have their next opportunity to equal the record in the upcoming round of Liga Pro, when they visit Leones FC in Ibarra.

A victory against Leones FC would allow the Rayados to reach 11 consecutive wins and match El Nacional's 1976 record. If they achieve a 12th consecutive win after equaling the mark, Independiente del Valle would hold the longest winning streak in Ecuadorian championship history outright.
