Copa Libertadores Match Postponed After Colombia Quake

The Copa Libertadores round-of-16 match between Deportes Tolima and Independiente del Valle was suspended after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia in the early hours of Monday.

The South American Football Confederation, Conmebol, informed the Ecuadorian club directly of the decision as it prepared to play the match.

Conmebol later issued an official statement announcing the suspension of that game along with the Copa Sudamericana match between Independiente Santa Fe and River Plate.

The organization said it was sending its affection and closeness to all of Colombia, and especially to the country's football family, during this difficult time. It said the matches were being temporarily suspended to protect everyone's safety and out of respect for the victims, given the exceptional situation.

Rescheduling still to come

Conmebol added that it was reiterating its solidarity and support during the difficult moment, and that more information on rescheduling would be sent soon. A further announcement is expected from Conmebol with new dates for both matches.
