Hilton, Marriott Bonvoy and IHG One Rewards are offering boosted debit card sign-up bonuses that can effectively cover first-year annual fees for frequent UK travellers.
The three introductory promotions allow users to accumulate hotel loyalty points and elite tier status through card spending, providing an alternative path to free hotel stays and premium travel perks.
While these rewards cards carry substantial annual fees that usually appeal to established loyalty members, current promotion bonuses offset those costs during the first 12 months. Rob Burgess, editor of frequent traveller website Head for Points, said: "If you've ever wanted to try one, now's your chance."

Each of these hotel chains operates many brands within the group.
Hilton Honors Plus debit card features
The Hilton Honors Plus debit card, issued by financial technology firm Currensea, offers guaranteed daily breakfast for cardholders who achieve Gold tier status. Currensea operates as a travel debit card provider in the United Kingdom, utilizing open banking protocols to connect directly with a cardholder's existing current account without requiring a separate bank transfer.
Under a promotional offer available until September 7, the Hilton Honors Plus card has increased its welcome bonus from 15,000 points to 50,000 points. The card also awards 35 elite qualifying nights rather than the standard 30 nights. Accumulating 30 elite nights grants Gold status within the Hilton Honors reward programme, which guarantees complimentary breakfast across 10,000 participating Hilton properties worldwide.
Burgess highlighted the guaranteed breakfast perk as an attractive feature for beginners, noting that competing loyalty schemes often make benefits subject to availability rather than guaranteed. To secure the full bonus, cardholders receive 20,000 points on their first transaction and must spend £2,500 in foreign currency within the first six months. The card charges a £150 annual fee, while Head for Points evaluates the bonus points at £165.
Marriott Bonvoy Premium card conditions
Marriott Bonvoy also provides standard and premium debit cards in partnership with Currensea. Marriott International operates as the world's largest hotel company, managing global brands across luxury, premium and select service categories.
The Marriott Bonvoy Premium debit card offers a welcome bonus of 40,000 points for customers who spend £3,000 in foreign currency within the initial 12 months of account opening. Applications for this promotional deal must be submitted before 4pm on September 15. The extended 12-month window gives cardholders six additional months compared to the Hilton card to meet spending requirements.
Points earned through the card can be redeemed for hotel accommodation or combined with cash payments, depending on room rates and location. The card grants Marriott Bonvoy Gold status, though perks such as late checkout and room upgrades remain subject to room availability. The card carries a £175 annual fee, with Head for Points valuing the 40,000 bonus points at £200.
IHG One Rewards partnership with Revolut
The IHG One Rewards debit card structure differs from its competitors by requiring customers to open an account with digital challenger bank Revolut. InterContinental Hotels Group operates IHG One Rewards across brands such as InterContinental, Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, while Revolut is a financial technology company offering digital banking and payments.
Under a promotional offer ending August 25, new account holders can earn 30,000 IHG One Rewards points and 15 elite night credits by spending £3,000 within the first three months. Unlike the Hilton and Marriott cards, domestic spending within the UK counts toward the threshold, removing the requirement for foreign currency transactions. Spending must be processed directly through the Revolut account.
The card awards Platinum status within the IHG loyalty programme, though room upgrades and early check-in options are subject to availability. The card carries an annual cost of £216, charged at £18 per month. Head for Points estimates the 30,000 bonus points are worth £120 when redeemed for hotel stays, based on a valuation of approximately 0.4p per point.
Choosing the right hotel debit card
While shifting primary banking activities to Revolut involves greater administrative effort, meeting the domestic spending threshold may prove easier for non-frequent travellers. However, the high annual fee makes the premium IHG card less suitable for casual testing.
For consumers seeking to evaluate both Revolut and hotel loyalty rewards without high upfront costs, a free card option is available. This no-fee alternative provides 10,000 bonus points after spending £1,000 within the first three months of account setup.
