Greece's General Secretariat for Civil Protection has forecast a high, category 3 fire risk across large parts of the country for Tuesday, August 25, 2026, according to its daily Fire Risk Prediction Map.
The map places dozens of regions under a "yellow" alert, the designation used for category 3 danger, meaning conditions are favorable for a fire to start and spread quickly.

- Aetolia-Acarnania
- Thesprotia
- Preveza
- Arta
- Trikala
- Larissa
- Magnesia
- Evros
- Rhodope
- Kilkis
- Thessaloniki
- Chalkidiki and Mount Athos
- Argolis
- Corinthia
- Ilia
- Messinia
- Laconia
- The Sporades
- The northeastern Aegean islands
- The Ionian islands
- Crete
- The Cyclades
- The Dodecanese
- Ioannina
- Karditsa
- Serres
- Achaea

Civil protection urges caution outdoors
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection issued a strong recommendation for citizens to avoid any outdoor activity that could start a fire through negligence.
It said particular caution was needed with actions such as burning dry grass, branches and clean-up residue, and with using machinery that can throw off sparks, including disc saws and welding equipment. Outdoor grills were also flagged as a risk. The agency listed smoking out beehives and discarding lit cigarettes among the dangerous activities to avoid.
The Secretariat also reminded the public that burning fields is banned throughout the fire season.
Reporting a fire
Anyone who spots a fire should contact the Fire Service immediately on 199, Civil Protection said, giving as accurate information as possible about the location of the incident.
Fire risk mapping in Greece
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection is the government body responsible for coordinating Greece's response to natural disasters, including wildfires, floods and earthquakes. Through the summer it issues a daily fire risk map grading the country's regions on a graduated danger scale, with category 3, shown in yellow, indicating high risk of ignition and rapid spread.
The Secretariat directed citizens seeking further guidance and self-protection advice against forest fire risks to its website, civilprotection.gov.gr.
