Brazilian actress Glória Menezes has died at her home in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday at the age of 91.
Her press officer confirmed to Brazilian news outlet G1 that her death occurred from natural causes.

A career spanning six decades
Menezes built a career spanning more than six decades across theater, cinema, and television. She starred in more than 40 telenovelas for TV Globo, making her debut on the network in the 1967 production Sangue e Areia.
TV Globo is Brazil's largest television network, renowned worldwide for producing serialized drama series known as telenovelas, which form a cornerstone of popular television viewing across Latin America.
Her history became closely intertwined with classic Brazilian television dramas. During the 1970s, Menezes starred in major productions including Irmãos Coragem in 1970, O Homem que Deve Morrer in 1971, Cavalo de Aço in 1973, and Pai Herói in 1979.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she appeared in television series including Guerra dos Sexos, Brega & Chique, Deus nos Acuda, A Próxima Vítima, and Torre de Babel. In the 1990 telenovela Rainha da Sucata, Menezes portrayed Laurinha Figueroa, a wealthy and arrogant character widely regarded as one of the most memorable villains in Brazilian television history.
Major television hits and film legacy
Menezes continued to star in high-rating television phenomena into the 2000s and 2010s, appearing in Porto dos Milagres in 2001, O Beijo do Vampiro in 2002, Senhora do Destino in 2004, A Favorita in 2008, and Totalmente Demais in 2015.
In cinema, Menezes starred in the 1962 film O Pagador de Promessas, a landmark work in Brazilian film history. The movie remains the first and only feature film from Brazil to receive the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Palme d'Or is the highest award presented at the annual Cannes Film Festival in France, recognizing the premier international motion picture in competition each year.
Personal life and official tributes
Her career was deeply connected to that of actor Tarcísio Meira, to whom she was married for 59 years until his death in 2021 at the age of 85. The pair first met while working in theater and grew to become one of the longest-lasting and most celebrated acting couples in Brazilian performing arts. They had a son together, actor Tarcísio Filho, who was born in 1964.
Brazil's Ministry of Culture issued an official statement following her death, noting that Menezes had marked different generations over a career of more than six decades with prominent roles in television, theater, and cinema.
The ministry added that her career spanned multiple eras in the history of Brazilian drama, leaving an important legacy for performance art and the cultural memory of the country.
