Peruvian television presenter Gisela Valcarcel is preparing a public statement regarding her future with Teleton 2026 after her daughter, Ethel Pozo, was dropped from the charity broadcast. Pozo announced her own exclusion during an episode of her online show Sin +Que decir, hinting that her mother may also end her participation.
Valcarcel has served as a central host for the annual Peruvian telethon for 30 years. The charity event, which raises funds for pediatric healthcare, is broadcast nationwide on the commercial network América TV.
During her digital program, Pozo was asked whether Valcarcel would also be left out of the 2026 telethon lineup. While Pozo declined to confirm her mother's explicit departure, she revealed that Valcarcel will make an official public announcement regarding her status.
Pozo said she did not want to get ahead of the formal message her mother plans to release. She added that Valcarcel would speak out from her own perspective given her three decade history as an anchor for the broadcast.
Pozo explained that she consulted her mother prior to issuing her own public statement. She said she informed Valcarcel of her intention to address the situation publicly on Monday so that the matter would be clearly understood, noting that she can be forceful when addressing issues.
Pozo also stated that she spoke with individuals linked to Teleton management before releasing her statement. She reported receiving support from those contacts to speak openly about her departure from the broadcast.
Reasons for Ethel Pozo exclusion
Pozo confirmed receiving notification from Teleton organizers on Tuesday stating she would neither host nor participate in the 2026 event. She expressed surprise at the decision, pointing out her long history of active involvement with the charitable cause.
According to Pozo, her removal stems from remarks she previously made about América TV on her digital program. She added that her presence had also generated discomfort among members of the morning show América Hoy.

Valcarcel has not yet publicly confirmed whether she will appear on Teleton 2026. Broadcasters and viewers remain waiting for the statement that Pozo says her mother will deliver in the coming days.
