The FSB has arrested a 55-year-old resident of Tambov over an alleged plot to detonate a bomb beneath a car carrying military factory workers.

The Federal Security Service stated that the suspect established contact with Ukrainian operatives and agreed to target employees at a defense industrial complex facility in the region.
The suspect, a Russian citizen born in 1971, was remanded in custody after law enforcement authorities opened a criminal investigation into preparation for a terrorist act, state news agency TASS reported.
According to law enforcement agencies, the man independently initiated communication with a representative of the Ukrainian special services before agreeing to carry out the attack on the factory personnel.
Investigators stated that the suspect carried out reconnaissance of the territory immediately adjacent to the defense enterprise. He then requested explosives or a manufactured landmine from his Ukrainian handler to assemble a bomb himself.
Industrial background in Tambov Oblast
Tambov is the administrative capital of Tambov Oblast, located along the Tsna River in central Russia, approximately 480 kilometres southeast of Moscow. The region serves as an industrial hub, housing manufacturing enterprises, chemical facilities, and engineering plants that contribute supplies to the Russian defense industrial complex.
The Federal Security Service, commonly known as the FSB, is Russia's main domestic security and counter-intelligence agency. Headquartered at Lubyanka Square in Moscow, the agency inherited the domestic security functions of the Soviet KGB and coordinates counter-terrorism enforcement across the country through its Center for Public Relations.
Legal framework and judicial precedents
The formal criminal case was launched under Part 1 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Article 205 governs terrorist acts under Russian law, defining terrorism offenses and establishing heavy prison sentences, while Article 30 covers criminal intent and preparation prior to execution.
The arrest in Tambov follows legal proceedings in other regions involving allegations of state security offenses. The Krasnodar Krai Court recently identified 23-year-old local resident Artem Borshchev as the individual responsible for three separate acts of sabotage, after he allegedly sought temporary part-time employment online.
